Do you enjoy classic stories? Do thoughts of immortality refuse to let you sleep at night? If you answered yes to any of these questions, come to the Fairview Library today for Summer Stories! This month, we take a look at the classic children’s novel, Tuck Everlasting. Winnie Foster is two things: 10 years old and over being with her overbearing family. After a strange encounter with a man in a yellow suit, Winnie runs away into the woods on her family’s land, trying to find the music box she heard the night before. There, she spies a young man, Jesse Tuck, drinking from a spring in the middle of a clearing. When Winnie tries to drink from the spring too, Jesse stops her. His family’s secret lies in the babbling waters and he doesn’t want Winnie going through the same heartbreak. What follows is a story of coming of age, treachery, and coming to terms with mortality. This captivating novel asks us directly: what secret is worth protecting?
Summer Stories begins with a discussion of the book, followed by a screening of the movie made in its likeness. Bring your lunch and join us for a fun day of classic stories!
